All things GC

According to Wikipedia, GC stands for:

  • Garbage Collection - In computer science, Garbage Collection (also known as GC) is a form of automatic memory management. The garbage collector or collector attempts to reclaim garbage, or memory used by objects that will never again be accessed or mutated by the application. Garbage collection was invented by John McCarthy around 1959 to solve the problems of manual memory management in his Lisp programming language.
  • Great Circle - A great circle is a circle on the surface of a sphere that has the same circumference as the sphere, dividing the sphere into two equal hemispheres. Equivalently, a great circle on a sphere is a circle on the sphere's surface whose center is the same as the center of the sphere. A great circle is the intersection of a sphere with a plane going through its center. A great circle is the largest circle that can be drawn on a given sphere.
  • Gas Chromatography - Gas Chromatography is a type of chromatography in which the mobile phase is a carrier gas, usually an inert gas such as helium or nitrogen, and the stationary phase is a microscopic layer of liquid on an inert solid support, inside glass or metal tubing, called a column.
  • Good Charlotte - Good Charlotte is a pop punk band from Waldorf, Maryland that formed in 1996. They took their name from a children's book: Good Charlotte: The Girls Of Good Day Orphanage by Carol Beach York.
  • Government of Canada - Government of Canada is an official site for the federal government in Canada. Offers information on Canada, its government, and federal programs and services.
  • Gold Coast - Gold Coast is a city and local government area set on the Coral Sea in the state of Queensland. It is the second most populous city in the state and seventh most populous city in Australia. The city is renowned for its sunny subtropical climate, popular surfing beaches, expansive waterway and canal systems, prestigious real estate, wide array of tourist attractions, and high-rise-dominated skyline.
  • George Cross - The George Cross is the highest civil decoration of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth.[1] The GC is the civilian counterpart of the Victoria Cross and the highest honour that can be awarded for civilian or non-operational bravery.
  • In terms of international relations, global citizenship refers to a nation-state's responsibility to act with awareness of the world as a global community, by both recognizing and fulfilling its global obligations, and recognizing the rights of global citizens. Global citizenship is related to the idealist school of thought, that states should include a level of moral goodwill in their foreign policy considerations. Whilst a judgement of 'good' global citizenship is a subjective one, some widely agreed upon examples of cases requiring a level of good global citizenship include the signing of the Kyoto Protocol, and the upholding of the UN Charter for Human Rights. Many states struggle to strike a balance between being a 'good' and 'effective' global citizen.
  • The Global Community is the fictional autocratic, anti-Christian world government in the Left Behind series of novels.
  • Global Crossing Limited is a telecommunications company that provides computer networking services worldwide. It maintains a large backbone and offers transit and peering links, VPN, leased lines, audio and video conferencing, long distance telephone, Managed services, dialup, colocation and VoIP, to customers ranging from individuals to large enterprises and to other carriers.
  • A general contractor is an organization or individual that contracts with another organization or individual (the owner) for the construction of a building, road or other facility. A general contractor is defined as such if it is the signatory as the builder of the prime construction contract for the project. A general contractor is responsible for the means and methods to be used in the construction of the project in accordance with the contract documents.

Worthwhile to keep a Log Book

Here is our simple guideline for simple Log Book writing.

WHERE should you write in your Log Book?

  • Anywhere - so keep it with you when possible or on a "loose-leaf" to be inserted.

WHY should you write in your Log Book?

  • It will record ideas that you might otherwise forget.
  • It will be worthwhile for you to read later on so that you can note your growth.
  • It will facilitate your learning, problem solving, writing, reading, and discussion your group or team.

HOW should you write in your Log Book?

  • In wonderful, long, flowing sentences with perfect punctuation and perfect spelling and in perfect handwriting.
  • OR in single words that express your ideas, in short phrases, in sketches, in numbers, in formulas, in diagrams, in sentences.

Graphing Calculator

The Casio fx-9860G, TI-89 and HP 49g+ calculators are all amazingly powerful calculators that are fun to use! The primary goal of this site is to show you how these Graphing Calculators as your study companion. The approach (we hope) is not to use the Graphing Calculator as a black box, but rather as a tool for exploring the way maths and science works and the way it can be used to solve problems - without having to rely entirely upon “cooked-up” problems with nice, clean solutions.

Take the learning of Calculus for instance. These Graphing Calculators will not “do calculus” for you. It cannot decide the proper approach to a problem nor can it interpret results for you. In short, you still have to do the thinking, and you need to know the fundamental concepts of calculus. You must learn calculus from attending lectures, your textbook and most importantly by working on problems. That’s where these Graphing Calculator comes in, allowing you to work interesting problems without getting bogged down on algebraic and computational details that can sometimes distract from the calculus concepts.

Each available model of Graphing Calculator (GC) has a different combination of capabilities, memory capacity, programmability, and price. See below for descriptions of each individual calculator:

  • TI-89 (1998) - The TI-89 sports all of the power of a TI-92, but in a traditional handheld design. With such features as 3D graphing, upgradable flash ROM, built-in assembly language programming, and a generous amount of user-available memory. The TI-89 Titanium (2004) eventually replace this model.
  • TI-84 Plus (2004) is an upgrade to the TI-83 Plus. It remains completely compatible with the TI-83 Plus. Its features include a new built in clock, a new mini USB link port in addition to the standard I/O port, added clock speed over the TI-83 Plus and an increase in Flash ROM size.
  • TI-83 (1996) was released as the successor to the TI-82 and featured a newer, more contoured case design that has since been used on all of TI's newer calculators. The TI-83 features backwards compatibility with TI-82 programs and some newer financial functions, but by far the most notable aspect of this calculator is built-in assembly programming capability. It been largely replaced by the TI-83 Plus (1999) and TI-83 Plus Silver Edition, an updated model.
  • TI-82 (1993) was long believed that the TI-82 could not be programmed in assembly, a loophole was eventually found, making the TI-82 a much more attractive programming platform. The TI-83 Plus and TI-84 Plus have taken the place of the TI-82 as the standard in math and science classrooms and the TI-82 is expected to be discontinued shortly.
TI-92 (1995) and its replacement TI Voyage 200 PLT (2002) will not be covered on this site is as many schools are ban them. TI-92 is a held horizontally and has a larger display, computer-style QWERTY keyboard, graphical user interface, 3D graphing features, and a Motorola 68000 processor.

CAS is old wine, new bottle. Why? Computer Algebra Systems (CAS) has been around for a while, are now available on graphics calculators and will soon become part of the technology which mathematics teachers are required to master and use in their classroom. Here, we like to give CAS novices an overview of CAS in the context of teaching and learning mathematics. Some of the curriculum and assessment issues associated with the introduction of CAS will also be explored.

GPS Tracking

A GPS tracking system is ideal for GPS vehicle tracking or any application where a small battery powered GPS tracking system is required. Based on the GPRS packet data network costs are much lower than GSM SMS. The GPS Data (Longitude, Latitude, Altitude and Timestamp) can be transferred back to a host system in real-time and the only special requirement is an Internet connection with a static IP address. GPRS charges are billed on data only. When the system is out of network contact it can continue logging positions to memory and send back to the host system once the connection is re-established so that no points are lost. Software triggers may also be defined so that only required data is logged to memory or sent via the GPRS connection to reduce communications costs.

Web-based Data Logger

Thanks to the World Wide Web, a new paradigm has been born. Any test facilities can now be configured to use a Web-based test logger, enabling worldwide participation in tests. A Web-based test logger for automatically writes selected test and facility parameters to a browser and allows researchers to insert comments. All data can be viewed in real time via Internet connections, so anyone with a Web browser and the correct URL (universal resource locator, or Web address) can interactively participate. As the test proceeds and data are taken, Web browsers connected to the logger are updated automatically. Welcome to the age of worldwide research with worldwide participation.

line diagram

Basic Idea is to transmit the data from one point to another, this transmission may be wireless or with wire over the internet, is more enhance technology than with-wire transmission so we adopted wireless transmitting and receiving data. 4 types of data is transmitted by different types of sensors. They include Temperature sensor, Fuel level Sensor, Pressure sensor and rpm sensor. These all sensors have analog output in the form of voltages so we have to convert it into digital data then we will able to transmit.  Well we converted analog data into digital data. Why? Because four different types of data are being transmitted trough one channel so multiplexing is required. Due to this we used a digital switch which multiplexed the four data and convert it into digital form one by one.
